SATIN WALLPAPER - ELEGANCE WITH A FINE SHINE
The term "Satin Wallpaper" is used for various kinds of wallpaper. It often refers to a vinyl wallpaper, i.e. a wallpaper on non-woven or paper base, whose surface is completely coated with vinyl (PVC). But satin wallpapers can also have a textile surface; then they belong to natural or textile wallpapers. All satin wallpapers, whether with natural or plastic coating, have one thing in common: their surface is sealed, smooth and shiny and feels pleasantly silky when you stroke it. For stylish living and special wall designs, satin wallpapers are ideal. You will find a beautiful and high-quality selection of satin wallpapers in our shop - and many favourable offers for individual living in your favourite style. Discover satin wallpaper online: as a single-coloured or patterned wallpaper, textile, and non-woven wallpaper, in natural appearance or with attractively shimmering vinyl coating. We also offer wallpapers of many renowned designers, manufacturers, and product lines, e.g. A.S. Création or Livingwalls.
NATURE IN SILKY SHINE: TEXTILE SATIN WALLPAPER
The term satin traditionally refers to fabric for whose production the so-called atlas or satin weave was used. When weaving the threads, the weft thread is carried under one warp thread, then over several warps away - and so on. Through this technique, there are later mainly parallel weft threads on the surface. This way, the typical satin gloss arises whose shimmer changes depending on the incidence of light.
With natural satin wallpaper you buy a perennial favourite from the world of textile wall coverings. With the fine textile structure, they give the rooms where you live or work a discreet exclusive and refined atmosphere. The carrier material of satin fabric wallpapers is either paper or non-woven material which is coated with a fibre or yarn system, such as cotton or silk. There are fabric wallpapers in which the threads intersect, and so-called warp wallpaper, where only the threads in longitudinal direction are connected with the wallpaper base. For a coloured or patterned wallpaper, the satin wallpaper is coloured using silk-screen printing and is thus provided with patterns and motifs.
Satin Fabric wallpapers have a classical, discreet charm and are elegant and inviting. Often, they adorn representative rooms and those in which special value is placed on an exclusive charisma. In private homes, they are used for example in living rooms, dining areas or even the bedroom. In the commercial sector, they are used in doctor’s offices and law firms, restaurants, hotels and stylish receptions, meeting or waiting rooms. For areas with high humidity and highly stressed areas, for example in the kitchen, bathroom or staircase, textile satin wallpapers are less suitable due to the sensitive surface.
VINYL WALLPAPER WITH A SATIN GLOSS
The carrier base of vinyl satin wallpaper is also either paper or non-woven. If multi-layered paper is used as base, the wallpaper is cleavable. This means that when moving or renovating, it can be easily pulled off the wall, while the bottom layer of paper remains as a lining paper for the next wallpaper on the wall. Non-woven wallpapers can also be removed quickly and easily when a change is pending.
A vinyl satin wallpaper is widely covered with PVC. This fine plastic layer almost feels like silk and, compared to the natural product, has the advantage that the wallpaper is extremely durable and robust. The surface of such a satin wallpaper can be wiped with a wet cloth or even scrubbed. It is colourfast, light-resistant and, therefore, well protected against fading or yellowing. The satin gloss is achieved by thermoforming which the surface of the material is subjected to after printing. This production step is also called gloss embossing.
Pay attention to use the right technique when wallpapering to achieve the best result: non-woven wallpaper requires a special paste and needs no soaking. Different to paper wallpapers, they are not pasted before wallpapering them, but are placed dry on the pasted wall. With the right paste and a suitable wallpapering tool this “pasting the wall” technique saves a lot of time and effort when wallpapering.
